Additional Information
This course will be offered online, over 3 consecutive Mondays (10/21, 10/28, and 11/4). Class will start at 8:00 AM Pacific Time/9:00 AM Mountain Time. It is preferable to complete this course from home (or other location away from your office). There will be a small amount of prework before each of the 3 classes (no more than 15 minutes).
Who: This course is designed for nurse managers, assistant nurse managers, and nursing supervisors who are either new to their management roles or have been in the position for less than two years.
When: The Foundations in Nursing Leadership course is now spread across three weekly sessions, focusing on critical areas of leadership development:
- Day 1 (October 21) - Understand personal leadership styles, building leadership and management skills for the workplace, and discussions about legislative engagement and public policy that impact nursing practice.
- Day 2 (October 28) - Managing human capital, workforce impacts on staffing resources, understanding nursing regulation and management of impaired nurses, workplace monitor utilization and identification of potential drug diversions.
- Day 3 (November 4) - Basic finance concepts, budget development and financial management for nurse managers. A completion presentation on "pulling it together" discusses Evidenced Based Practice, quality outcome measures and the role of the nurse manager in leading and evaluation quality.
How: This fully virtual course will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Participants must have access to a computer with a camera and actively engage and participate in the exercises. All course materials will be provided to the learners electronically.
