Additional Information

Since 2015, 194 Idaho Nurse Managers have completed this course. The target group for participation are nurse managers at all levels who are new to their management role or have been in their roles less that 2 years.  It has been especially beneficial to Critical Access Hospital Chief Nursing Officers.  Based on participant feedback and to help facility staffing needs, the course was reduced from 5 days to 3 days and content was selected based on participant requests.

The 3 days are divided into daily focused content areas:

(Day 1) Understand personal leadership styles, building leadership and management skills for the workplace, and discussions about legislative engagement and public policy that impact nursing practice.

(Day 2) Managing human capital and workforce impacts on staffing resources, understanding nursing regulation and management of impaired nurses, workplace monitor utilization and identification of potential drug diversions.

(Day 3) Basic finance concepts, budget development and financial management for nurse managers. A completion presentation on "pulling it altogether" discusses Evidenced Based Practice, quality outcome measures and the role of the nurse manager in leading and evaluating quality.
